Iron Blight does not have complete Xbox gamepad support as of Patch 1.05. The developer says full support will arrive in a later patch because internal tests still found missing features. A previous developer reply said a pad should work to some extent outside menus, so test menus, inventory, pause, and the first interaction before committing to a controller-only run. Steam lists the game as Steam Deck Playable, a separate rating that may still require manual input adjustments. Status checked September 25, 2026.

Xbox controller: what should you test first?

  1. Let Steam finish updating Iron Blight, then connect the controller before launching.
  2. At the title screen, test menu navigation and confirmation. Keep a mouse or keyboard available if those actions fail.
  3. In a safe opening area, test movement, aiming, interaction, inventory, the new Unload Ammo action, pause, and save access one at a time.
  4. If gameplay works but a menu action does not, open the game's controller layout in Steam and inspect the binding for that action. A keyboard or mouse command can be assigned through Steam's controller configuration when a gamepad-only command has no supported target. Retest the one action before changing the whole layout.
  5. If a layout change does not help, restore the previous layout and record which screen and command failed. Report your controller model, connection method, selected layout, and game version in the official Steam technical-issues discussion.

This is a diagnostic order, not a tested button map for Iron Blight. Valve's controller configuration help explains why a gamepad-only binding may fail in a game without full support and why keyboard or mouse bindings can be useful.

Steam Deck: what does Playable mean here?

Playable does not mean every Iron Blight menu, prompt, or control works without adjustment. Valve defines the category as a game that functions on Deck but may need manual work, such as a controller layout change or touchscreen input. It is distinct from Verified. Open the current compatibility details on the game's Steam page before buying for Deck; a rating can change after a game update.

On Deck, test the title menu, inventory grid, magazine actions, map, pause, and the Patch 1.05 Unload Ammo control before leaving a safe checkpoint. If a control fails, inspect the game's Steam Input layout and map that one action to its keyboard or mouse equivalent, then retest. Keep the original layout available so a failed experiment does not remove working inputs. This wiki has not tested a particular Deck model, SteamOS release, Proton version, or community layout, so it cannot recommend a verified preset.

Has Patch 1.05 finished controller support?

No. The September 21 patch announcement explicitly places full Xbox gamepad support in a later patch. The August 25 developer reply is useful context for why gameplay may respond while menus do not, but the newer announcement is the current status. A future release should be checked before this page claims full support. For other blocked inputs, use known-issues troubleshooting; for the game's PC and Deck listing, see download details.

Verification

Official statements, Valve's category definition, and the Steam listing were reviewed on September 25, 2026. No controller hardware was tested for this article. The steps above isolate a failing input and preserve a working layout; they do not promise that Steam Input supplies every missing game feature.
