Iron Blight Difficulty, Ironman, Cassette Tape and Sickness
Understand Iron Blight Hardcore, Ironman Mode, Cassette Tape Mode, and Sickness with confirmed Steam requirements and Patch 1.04 planning notes.
On this page+
Iron Blight separates its campaign challenge settings from achievement goals. Steam confirms achievements for completing the campaign on Hardcore, in Ironman Mode, and in Cassette Tape Mode. The developer's patch notes do not fully document what every mode changes, so this guide separates confirmed behavior from details that still need an in-game check.
What each mode is confirmed to require
| Setting or mode | Confirmed achievement | Confirmed requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Hardcore difficulty | Blightbreaker | Complete the campaign on Hardcore difficulty. |
| Ironman Mode | Iron Might | Complete the campaign in Ironman Mode. |
| Cassette Tape Mode | Recorded | Complete the campaign in Cassette Tape Mode. |
| Sickness modifier | No separate Steam achievement shown | Patch notes identify Sickness as a modifier and document its behavior. |
The official information does not state whether these modes can be stacked in one clear, whether they alter every rule in the same way, or which optional settings are compatible. Do not plan a one-run 100% clear around assumptions; complete a normal route first and verify the options shown by your current build.
Hardcore and Sickness changes
Patch 1.01 made the Sickness modifier inactive by default on Hardcore difficulty. Patch 1.02 changed the Hardcore damage multiplier from 0.70 to 0.75. Patch 1.03 made the effects of sickness and low health more significant, while also increasing the amount of sickness cured by vodka. In Patch 1.04, vodka's Quick Use behavior changed so it is automatically consumed only when sickness is critically high.
Those changes make old launch-week advice unreliable. If you are comparing a video to your game, check its date before copying its sickness, healing, or difficulty strategy.
Prepare before a challenge run
- Complete a standard campaign route with the full walkthrough so that doors, tools, and puzzle order are familiar.
- Read the achievement checklist and decide which confirmed completion goal you are pursuing.
- Update Steam and review the current patch notes before starting. Patch 1.04 also added Save & Quit and changed stealth footstep and mutant melee behavior.
- Carry the next key item, not just combat supplies. A failed return trip is expensive in any challenge setting.
- Keep your plan conservative. The official material supports the mode names and achievement conditions, but it does not authorize invented rules or hidden modifiers.
Is Ironman the same as Hardcore?
No official announcement says that they are the same setting. Steam lists separate achievements for a Hardcore completion and an Ironman Mode completion, so treat them as distinct targets unless the current game's menu explicitly tells you otherwise.
Does Cassette Tape Mode make Recorded unobtainable?
No current official source supports that claim. Steam lists Recorded as a Cassette Tape Mode completion and its public global achievement data shows it has been earned. Patch 1.01 also included a fix for campaign-completion achievement awarding. If a completion does not unlock on a current build, preserve the save and record the active settings before reporting it.
Verification and sources
Mode requirements were checked on September 6, 2026 against Steam's achievement page. Sickness, Hardcore, and Quick Use changes come from the official Patch 1.01, Patch 1.02, Patch 1.03, and Patch 1.04 announcements.
